About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

I am a small online boutique that sells anything that is unique & dark. I started by selling apparel, witch-related supplies, and accessories from other brands but I have shifted into making my own soy wax candles. I will also be adding mounted & framed insects, jewellery, enamel pins, patches, and more in the near future, all made by me!

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

Every single thing I create is made with pure love. My ideas will always be fresh & new and I will go above & beyond to keep you happy! I have a background in customer service, so that is always very important to me.

With that said, the stuff I create may not be for everyone, as it can sometimes lean to a dark aesthetic or a taboo subject. For those who love the oddities and dark side of life…this is for you!

What inspired you to start your business?

Two things: My cousin Kaitlin, who I have always looked up to. She started her own successful business and, after seeing her thrive as a woman in business and seeing her enjoy what she does so much, it really inspired me!

The second thing is my love for anything dark, taboo, silly, and just plain weird. Nighttime (my favourite time), horror movies, Greek myths, and my favourite true crime podcast (shoutout to the Last Podcast on the Left) are all things that inspire me in everything I do. I wanted a space to put all my twisted thoughts into something real!

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

I know it’s still considered taboo to talk about but honestly, it’s been the financial aspect of it. I started it for fun in the summer, not really planning where I was heading with it, and therefore, I did not save up like you need to. I feel like the struggle only makes you work harder to become stronger & more adaptable.

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

My first candle! The fact that I dreamed it up, made the labels, figured out how to pour the wax, and everything in between. It’s small but it felt so big.

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Don’t do what you think others will like. Do what YOU like and people will respond to that, even if it takes a little time.

Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

I will also be at the Winnipeg Punk Rock Flea Market on April 2nd, 2023! Stop by, say hi!

Hail yourselves!
