About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Cruddlies are one-of-a-kind, hand-sewn, art-dolls made by artist Nick Iskierski.

Cruddlies started as a joint creative project between Nick and his wife Julie over 15 years ago. Things took off and Cruddlies have been sold in markets around Manitoba as well as a handful of other places through consignment sales. Over the years, Nick has taken the reins and is currently galloping through a resurgence of Cruddlie popularity.

Cruddlies can be found at Bevvy Teyems Custom Framing and Pollock’s Hardware Co-op as well as living within hundreds of households around the world. Most are made without a plan and evolve as the shapes are stuffed but many have been based on customers’ ideas through commission orders.

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

Cruddlies are ALWAYS one-of-a-kind and handmade; they can be based on ANY of your weird ideas.

What inspired you to start your business?

Cruddlies were originally fuelled by the popularity of some stuffed toy lines and have become an excellent outlet for creative expression.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

Learning to hand sew and figuring out a price point that is affordable for customers while factoring in the work put into each creation.

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

Seeing the inner child of people come out when seeing and playing with the dolls!

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Find markets and storefronts that fit your personality and product; there are many opportunities to explore and most makers are always willing to give advice. Also, word of mouth is as important as social media and any other form of advertising so connect with your existing customers and always focus on making the best thing for them.

Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

Please stay tuned to my Instagram page for info on any upcoming markets.

If you are interested in getting a Cruddlie for yourself, check out Bevvy Teyems Custom Framing in the Exchange District or Pollock’s Hardware Co-op in the North End. Custom orders are always welcome as well and a fun way to collaborate with a creative weirdo. Please DM us directly on Instagram for more info!
