About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Genuine Bodycare is a handcrafted, luxury bath & body brand creating beautiful, nourishing products made with natural, clean, and simple ingredients. We never use synthetic fragrances or dye and we believe in only using minimal waste packaging that is either reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable. We plant one tree with every order that we process and are proud to have planted 857 trees in our first nine months of business. We can’t wait to see how many trees we plant in 2022!

Every lip balm, body butter, bath bomb, body scrub, and soap bar has been handcrafted, hand-poured, and hand-pressed in small batches, which ensures that we can provide a product to you that is as fresh as possible so that you can soak in all of the great benefits!

Making beautiful soap the old-fashioned way! We make our soaps using the cold-process method that allows us to pour, design, and sculpt our soaps in our signature peaked design. No two soap bars are the same, which gives each customer a unique experience. Each bar is also wrapped in a recycled paper label making them zero waste.

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

When you choose to use one of our products, you can use them knowing that they are made with clean ingredients and that you don’t have to worry about what you’re using on your family or yourself. You can also rest easy knowing that we have taken every step we can to ensure our products leave very little waste and impact on the environment.

What inspired you to start your business?

Motherhood. I was always someone who tried to use clean products personally and around my home but when I had my first son, I took that to another level. I found myself reading every label and researching the ingredients of every product before I would use it. Many times, I would find products claiming to be “clean” and “safe,” but still containing questionable ingredients like fragrances or paraben. I finally decided to ditch those and venture into making my own products.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

I definitely think that, as a whole, I’m a work in progress and I’m always trying to improve. A big thing for me is time. There just never seems to be enough time in a day to get everything done, so buckling down and creating good systems & routines has definitely helped with workflow & production.

Supply chain issues this past year were super hard while also dealing with a huge price increase in supplies. I am hopeful that 2022 will be easier for that; fingers crossed that some of the costs start to come back down.

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

We just hit our one year and that is a big milestone. It’s tough starting a business from scratch. It’s expensive, there are a lot of mistakes made that first year, and a lot of lessons learned. I think that being able to get one full year under our belt is a big accomplishment. We have learned so much and are excited to see what 2022 brings for our brand. Hopefully, we can continue to grow all across Canada!

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Be patient. Things take time, but if you keep working at it and keep pushing, it will happen exactly when it is supposed to. Be okay with rejection and failure; it will happen and that is okay, but don’t give up when it does. If you believe in and love what you’re doing, you will push through those times and knock it out of the park!

Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

Our full product line can be found on our website, but if you prefer to shop with us in person, we will be doing all three Manitoba Night Markets (June 12th, July 24th and August 28) as well as the Winkler Harvest Festival from August 12th – 14th.

You can also DM us on Instagram to be directed to the nearest shop in the city that carries our products.
