Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Crafthouse Collective is wax products that contain natural and responsibly sourced ingredients including infused crystals and botanical blends as well as 100% essential oils and fragrances. 

At Crafthouse Collective, our focus is to create new and unique wax products based on a sustainable business ethos of Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. We source 100% from Canadian suppliers and local organizations. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint when creating each product and we believe that there is a bountiful supply of readily available, quality resources already created by supply chain stores, reducing how much we contribute to the corporate community.

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

Crafthouse Collective Crystal Infused Candles are soy, so they are vegan as well as cruelty and toxin-free. Our candles burn clean right to the last drop!

What inspired you to start your business?

The pandemic! I picked up a small hobby of decorating store-bought candles with crystals and gemstones. However, I found the store-bought candles would give me a headache or what we call “tunnel”. I decided to take matters into my own hands and start hand pouring my own wax!

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

Supplies. The pandemic has created a lot of obstacles but sourcing my supplies has sometimes proven to be most difficult due to low inventory all over Winnipeg, Canada and, of course, further away in the world, where I purchase my stones from. 

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

I’m so surprised how much people love my products! I never officially launched because the candles are selling themselves. People love healthy and yummy smells that fill their homes. 

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Do what you LOVE and are passionate about. There are going to be aspects of your business that you don’t enjoy (like paperwork), so make it something you will love to do even when you don’t feel like it. This makes the paper-pushing easier!

You will find me at the Winnipeg Local Shop Spring Edition II at Transcona Country Club on April 30th, the St. Andrews Farmers Market on July 16th/23rd + September 3rd, and in-store at L.O.V.E. (Locally Operated Vendor Emporium) in Garden City Shopping Centre.
