Business Name: Bloom Designs & Photo Website: www.shopbloomdesignsandphoto.com Established: 2019 Questions answered by: Denae Muller
Can you please fully explain your business or product line?
Here at Bloom Designs & Photo, I strive to help simplify, organize, and transform your life through basic everyday changes. With helpful organizational stationery, cards for every event, reusable totes with many purposes, and photos to leave you in awe, I want to help you see that the simple things and changes in life can make all the difference.
I create a variety of items, most being hand-lettered and drawn or built by me. The product line consists of a large range of items including occasion cards, study planners, prints, journals, password books, recipe boxes + cards, card boxes, and tote bags along with stationery to help with daily/weekly planning, meal planning, shopping lists, to-do lists, and notes.
With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?
Each product I create is made with love and with you in mind. Every design I do is drawn and hand-lettered by me which makes every product I sell unique and one of a kind. Since most things are done in-house, I can customize cards for special events, thank-yous, invitations for your wedding – the options are endless.
What inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired to start my business because I was going through some health issues that made it nearly impossible for me to go to school or get a normal job. Designing and hand lettering inspirational quotes on both paper and my iPad encouraged me when I was feeling down about my current situation. I shared my art with a friend who said it inspired her and she wanted a canvas print of it…Bloom was born!
As time went on and I started the business, I realized how much of a need I was in, not only for my business, but also in my life with my health struggles, for simple, inspiring moments throughout the day as well as organizational and helpful stationery, which led my business to what it is today.
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been trying to grow my business throughout my changing health issues as I don’t always have the time and energy that the business deserves. As time has gone on, I have learned how to work through those times to still be able to create and work. There are always small struggles that come and, like any small business, growth takes time. I am still learning each day how to improve my business and make it more catered to my customer base.
What has been your biggest success as a maker?
My biggest success as a maker has been going to markets and having people come looking for my booth to make a purchase. Part of the goal with the products I create is organization and simplicity, so I love when I get messages or am able to have a conversation with people to hear that they love the product and how it has helped them organize more effectively.
Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?
Don’t wait to start – do it now. Put in the work and give yourself grace. You won’t grow overnight, growth takes time, but is worth the wait. Focus on your dream and follow your gut.
Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people the purchase your product!
My Instagram is the best place to see any new products that I will be launching and to see what in-person markets I will be attending.
Right now you can find my products at Sam’s Place and The Fabric Snob, both in Winnipeg. I am always looking to expand my in-person locations and will always update Instagram with new wholesale locations for customers to make purchases.
