About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

I create earrings using polymer clay. Each batch is handmade using a slow & methodical process; it’s very much an art form. I take great pride in working gently with the clay so there is very little bubbling, unwanted marks, and no fingerprints. Every piece goes through many stages to reach completion. From the oven, the majority of pieces need to be sanded, drilled, assembled (all by hand) & pass the final quality control.

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

I care about the quality I am putting out and how you are feeling about your purchase; my unique artistic style means that you will find something you love. I love what I do & many of my customers become friends with their continued support. I have quite a few customers hooked & they just keep on coming back. It’s very meaningful to see someone have a Savi Rose collection with a variety of earrings I have made! I’m just a small-town Mom following her passion as a growing artist.

What inspired you to start your business?

I had another business (Spruced Up Designs) where I was hand painting home decor & scrolling custom signs. It’s with this passion that I was attending a craft show in Winnipeg at the Artlington Studios in December of 2019 when I met another local maker who was selling polymer clay jewelry. This was my first time learning about this new medium & I loved how lightweight the end product was. After a couple of months, I realized I couldn’t stop thinking about it & I took the leap in March of 2020 to purchase my first batch of supplies & tools.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

Working with a new medium had its hurdles to overcome, but overall the process was quite enjoyable. When I first started selling studs, I was using a gluing process & all of the studs were falling apart. Customers were messaging me to let me know, so I immediately shut down my Etsy page, redid every stud I had in stock & I announced what had happened on social media. I replaced everyone’s studs, either fixing their purchase or sending new ones free of charge. I learned a lot from that and I am thankful for the feedback! Ultimately, it made my business stronger.

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

This is a tough one to answer. I have done a lot of powerful/huge pieces as an artist through painting. I’ve also locked down so many repeat customers in the last year with Savi Rose that I am so proud of! I’ve put a lot of work & research into my business. I believe my biggest success has just been continually growing & surprising myself along the way. I am so close to reaching my 1000th sale on Etsy, which has been one of my goals from that very first “cha-ching” notification!

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Absolutely! Do your research…continuously. You are never done learning. Create & dream from a place of “YOU”. Build your business with your thoughts & your values & believe in yourself.

Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

I recently joined the Plant Lab shop in the Exchange District where you can shop in person, as well as online! I also look forward to attending in-person craft shows!!
