About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Hi! My name is Janelle Mona Marie and I am the maker here at Studio Bloom Co.; an Indigenous-owned shop based out of Winnipeg.

I create intuitive jewelry & artwork inspired by the beautiful world that surrounds me. By marrying colors, shapes, and textures, I follow my intuition to create earrings, necklaces, and mixed medium artworks. I love working with my hands and feel so grateful to be able to share my creations with my community!

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

One thing that I pride myself on is the quality of the product and my customers’ experience. After I create a new design, I make a point of wearing the jewelry out and about in my day-to-day life to ensure that is it comfortable, lightweight, and functional prior to launching the design to my community! I only launch designs that I would LOVE to wear and I truly believe that style should go hand in hand with comfort!

What inspired you to start your business?

I attended Rachel Hollis’ personal growth conference in Dallas in July 2019. During a guided meditation focused on “owning your future”, I had a vision that I was creating jewelry designs with my hands + sharing these with my community (I had no idea how to make jewelry at that time!). I had so many ideas just pouring out of my mind for this new business + couldn’t get it off my mind!

I sketched out my first collection on my red-eye flight home from Dallas and from there…Studio Bloom Co. was born!

As for my artwork, I have been painting abstracts for five years. Being at the canvas is incredibly therapeutic for me as I get the opportunity to express myself freely. The process of layering various colour, shapes, textures + mediums brings me so much joy.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

Learning the importance of being organized with the accounting/bookkeeping & business taxes. I’ve learned so much along the way and Google is definitely my friend!

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

Honestly…some of my biggest successes of being a maker are the opportunities that I have had to collaborate with other local vendors, makers, artists, and influencers! The community here in Winnipeg is so incredibly supportive and I have made so many friendships along the way, which I am so very grateful for!

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

1. Allow yourself to be a beginner 🙂

2. Don’t be shy to ask for help!

3. Keep it fun 😉

4. Research, Research, Research.

5. Don’t worry about other people’s opinion of you.

6. Stay true to your core value (your “WHY”) and everything else will fall into place!

7. You’re not for everyone!

Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

I will be launching a new summer collection in mid-July to build on my most recent necklace launch! Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to get exclusive access + a sweet promo code to use on your first purchase!
