About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Salvaged was born after artisan and maker, Maegan, working in the construction industry saw how much building materials ended up in landfills. Saving as much as she could, Maegan began using the architectural salvage, old millwork, hardware, and anything else she could find to begin creating one of a kind and functional home decor pieces.

Over time, the business has evolved to include some vintage upcycling as well as art based on our unique Canadian history. Every piece has a history and a story to tell; home decor with a vintage vibe and an eco twist!

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

At Salvaged, we use as much reusable resources as possible in every piece. We are actively diverting “waste” from landfills and encouraging the slow decor movement.

What inspired you to start your business?

Working in construction, I hated to see how much perfectly usable material ended up in the garbage. I wanted to give a second life to some of what was being tossed.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

The term “upcycling” has long been met with connotations of garbage or of lower quality. I’ve been patiently hoping to change perceptions of the term and the “throw away” mentality.

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

Any time someone recognizes that I am repurposing something that had enjoyed a previous life into something new, beautiful and useful, I feel that is a great accomplishment.

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Take risks! Take chances and push yourself beyond your own doubts. Not everything will be a home run, but you will have one and it’s the fuel for the next one.

Also, don’t let rejection get you down. It’s not personal.

Please share any upcoming events as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

Due to Covid, I am not currently doing any shows, but am hoping to be back in person soon!
