About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Golden Petal Goods is a small business providing consciously curated vintage and handmade goods to locals out of our private studio! Our business blossomed from the desire to give new life to second-hand home decor and promote a more sustainable & eco-friendly lifestyle!

At our core, we pull inspiration from classical works of art, botanicals, nature, and all things golden. We offer local pickup and Canada-wide shipping on small items, with a website launch coming this spring/early summer.

New products launch weekly including vintage housewares, clothing, and jewelry. We love to source brass, crystal, wicker, mid-century decor, and items from the ‘70s – ‘90s to adorn your home!

Items handcrafted exclusively by Golden Petal Goods include pressed flower frames, keychains, macramé, jewelry, candles, art prints, stickers, and more! We are also in the process of collaborating with other local makers on our Instagram and website to diversify the products offered.

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

At Golden Petal Goods we believe in keeping it local. Shopping small is so important to us and we love supporting local makers within our community.

Sustainability is also a big goal of ours! We believe buying vintage goods reduces pollution and waste in the textile industry while providing a wide range of items. We also use second-hand, up-cycled, or compostable supplies where possible to package our items!

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve always been the creative type and loved to share my handmade projects with friends and family, so when I was 16, I started a wire wrapping jewelry shop on Etsy. This little business may have inspired me to pursue Golden Petal Goods on a larger scale!

As I got older, I became aware of the environmental impacts of fast fashion and strived to make changes in my own life to be more sustainable. In addition to this, antique shopping has always been a favourite pastime of my family, and I enjoyed finding unique vintage items for myself. Golden Petal Goods was a way for me to share my love of vintage with others and encourage sustainable shopping. The shop is such a creative outlet for me; I love curating home decor and handmade items for my clients!

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

I’ve always been my own worst critic! Starting a business can be scary and it can be discouraging when you have to establish your business and don’t see instant positive results. I’ve made mistakes along the way and have had to figure out what works and what doesn’t as I go!

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

All the love and support I’ve received from the vintage and handmade community in Winnipeg! My first market was a big one, just months after opening my business online. I wasn’t well known at the time, but got such a positive response and made many connections! Those who continue to support my business by purchasing goods or sharing my work help me continue doing what I love.

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Don’t give up; those who keep with it see amazing results in the long term!

Shopping local and supporting small businesses has become popular in recent years and now is the best time to start your business. Make connections in your community with other makers and stick with it as you figure out how to brand your products & increase your traffic!

Please share any upcoming events (virtual for the time being, of course) as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

Luckygirl Pop Up is hosting an online Mother’s Day market from May 1st to 5th with a ton of amazing local vendors.
