Can you please fully explain your business or product line?
A.Na Designs creates abstract paintings and flow art including available to purchase pieces while also offering custom work.
I also work with polymer clay and create crafts such as earrings, keychains, decorative bowls, etc.
With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?
A.Na Designs are created with love and with you in mind. I aim to make art accessible and even though I always charge fairly, there is an option to pay-what-you-can in certain circumstances.
I want you to feel beautiful or find some joy when you see my art/crafts, so I’m willing to work on an individual basis.
What inspired you to start your business?
Painting for me is an outlet that started with giving pairings to friends/family and being encouraged by loved ones to sell the art. As for polymer clay crafts, it all started with earrings and how beautiful they made me feel while wanting to share that feeling with the world.
Overall, Covid allowed for some extra room and an outlet that turned into so much more.
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?
Honesty, learning to charge my worth. I wanted to just give everything out for free, but it turns out I’m not a millionaire (yet) and supplies are expensive. Also, my time is worth something! Who would’ve thought?!
What has been your biggest success as a maker?
People getting excited about what I create! I started the business last year at the beginning of Covid by giving away earrings to nurses and people who were struggling, just to brighten their day for a moment.
The stories from that were so beautiful and humbling; I still cry when I reflect back on it.
Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?
DO IT! Seriously just do it! Even if you don’t sell at first, just put it out there and keep putting it out there.
