About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

I make bracelets, necklaces, earrings, keychains, pins, magnets, and bookmarks from used book pages that I predominantly source from local thrift stores and used book stores. The beads I use in my bracelets are hand rolled by me.

With the Winnipeg local maker community continuing to grow, what is the most important thing you’d like potential customers of your company to know?

As a booklover myself, I love the joy that my products trigger in people. I go above & beyond for every customer, and hunt down elusive books for custom work to make truly special gifts.

What inspired you to start your business?

You can read about it here: https://sidehustleschool.com/episode/1417/.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome?

A mix of advertising (getting discovered online is hard!) and learning photography. I have no photography skills, so overcoming that has been rough.

What has been your biggest success as a maker?

Seeing how excited people get about my products; I love to see people light up when they see something made with one of their favourite books.

Do you have any advice that you would pass on to someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Figure out what your hook is; why someone should buy from you, what makes your product unique, etc. It’s okay to sell a product in a saturated market, as long as you can communicate what is different about your product.

Please share any upcoming events (virtual for the time being, of course) as well as the best place(s) for people to purchase your product!

Rise Above Bursaries for Single Parents is currently looking for handmaid vendors and will be running a virtual market on May 1st.
