About Them
Can you please fully explain your business or product line?
I make hand-painted dot mandala style mugs, ornaments, magnets and artwork. I paint each and every dot by hand myself – no stickers or stencils.
With the local maker community continuing to grow, what makes you stand out from the rest?
I pour my heart and soul into each and every piece I make. I want each and every customer to walk away with a piece that is truly unique and speaks to them, and because everything is strictly done by hand (my hands!) even if pieces are similar no two will ever be exactly the same.
What made you realize that you had a product that could be shared with others?
I started painting initially because my daughter and I discovered the Kindness Rocks movement in Winnipeg. People paint rocks and hide them all over the city, and finders post their found treasures. It was such a fun way to spend time together, and the more I did it the more I found painting was quite soothing.
I eventually discovered mandalas and fell in love with the geometry and repetitions coming together to make something so beautiful. During a particularly stressful time in my life I started painting more and more as a way to cope, and soon found I had people asking to buy my creations.
What has been your biggest success as a maker? Biggest struggle you’ve overcome?
I don’t know if I can point to one single success…I know every time I get a sweet message or review or hear from someone that they saw my work through a friend and fell in love; that’s a success to me every time.
I think the same as a lot of artists – just the struggle to allow ourselves to put value on our work and push past the negativity and people who might tell you what you are doing isn’t worthwhile.
Any advice that you would tell someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?
Patience! Patience and perseverance. If you believe in yourself and your product, stick with it. And know that your plans will never ever go exactly as imagined!
Please share any upcoming events (physical events, virtual sales, etc.) that you think Winnipeggers would be interested in!
You can always find me on social media and my website.
