About Them
Can you please fully explain your business or product line?
Pine & Peony Co. offers a unique line of luxury handmade soaps. Designed & made from scratch by the same two hands with premium-grade sustainably sourced ingredients ensuring you receive the very best bar of soap every time.
Formulated with tons of skin-loving oils & butters to make the creamiest, most luxurious lather that gently & thoroughly cleanses without stripping the natural moisture from your skin, leaving you feeling healthy & radiant!
All my soaps are non-toxic, vegan, palm oil & cruelty-free. Scented with pure therapeutic grade essential oils & some perfume oils.
With the local maker community continuing to grow, what makes you stand out from the rest?
My soaps stand out because of their unique appearance, but most importantly, because of their quality. All of my recipes are jam-packed full of luxury oils & butters, making these some of the most luxurious handmade soaps you will ever try!
Unique designs, beautiful colours, and a super-smooth, rich & creamy lather make these soaps hard to beat. If you haven’t tried handmade soap before, I encourage you to give them a try.
These are nothing like commercial soap. They are SO much better for you, your skin, and the planet!
What made you realize that you had a product that could be shared with others?
Soap making started out as a creative outlet. I had been curious about the process for a while and wanted to see if I could make a better bar of soap than what I was using at the time. I never set out to make & sell soap in the beginning, but after posting photos of what I was doing on IG, friends and family started asking to try & buy my soaps. What started as a hobby, became a creative obsession and now has become a little business!
What has been your biggest success as a maker? Biggest struggle you’ve overcome?
To date, my biggest success so far as a maker is having had the opportunity to be part of this fall’s Third + Bird, Christmas in October market. That absolutely felt like a milestone for me and my little business! Third + Bird, over the years, has created an amazing brand and is consistently showcasing a variety of talented artists. All offering their unique handmade products. That being said, it felt amazing to be a part of the incredible lineup of local makers that were featured at this year’s show.
The biggest struggle I’ve overcome was deciding to quit my day job and go all in, full-time soap maker. I said goodbye to the security of my pay-check every 2 weeks & hello to working harder, longer hours than I ever have before, but I love it! Sometimes I find myself still working at 1 am, but I always seem to have a smile on my face while I’m doing it.
Any advice that you would tell someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?
Don’t doubt yourself. You’ll probably feel like giving up & giving in at some point, but don’t let that inner saboteur get to you. Do your best & try not to be too hard on yourself.
And I know that this is going to sound super cheesy but follow the path with heart.
We all get way too caught up in our heads all the time with things that really don’t matter, so yeah, follow the path with heart!
Please share any upcoming events (physical events, virtual sales, etc.) that you think Winnipeggers would be interested in!
You can find my soaps for sale at these four local vendors; thegoodboxgifts.com, The Tara Davis Studio Boutique, Made Here in the Richardson Building, and Salt Boutique on Academy Road.
Additionally, please feel free to contact me directly at pineandpeonyco@gmail.com or send me a DM on Instagram for the latest in what’s available!
I often create soaps that don’t make it to my social media accounts, so you never know, you may get an exclusive soap surprise!
