About Them

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Prairie Gem is a multi-layered business that creates custom diffuser jewelry, bracelets, scrunchies and face-masks. We tailor each order to the customers’ individual taste, designs, and size. Our quality materials and craftsmanship create a perfect blend of style and durability.

With the local maker community continuing to grow, what makes you stand out from the rest?

Prairie Gem creates custom designs which can be made to order for everyone’s individual taste. Our products are competitively priced with unique designs and exceptional craftsmanship which allows us to stand out from the rest. We have taken part alongside a long list of many other amazing vendors at The White Tail Meadow Market in Niverville for the past 3 years in a row, as well as The Winnipeg Tattoo Convention. Other stores such as Le Esprit, Lacoste Garden Centre and Interlake Handmade Boutique in Gimli are just a few businesses that also carry our line of unique products.

What made you realize that you had a product that could be shared with others?

My initial business was our diffuser jewelry, which lead me to an idea for a mother/daughter venture by adding scrunchies to pair with the jewelry. We received such an amazing response that we expanded our company to incorporate all the other items to keep up with demand. The initial hobby has now turned into a thriving business which has not only kept us remarkably busy, but also allowed us to build a successful business.

With the arrival of the pandemic, we have included non-medical face masks to our product line which are also available in a variety of patterns and sizes to meet our customers’ needs.

What has been your biggest success as a maker? Biggest struggle you’ve overcome?

Our biggest success has been the amount of interest in our products, as well as the high demand from new and repeat customers. Prairie Gem has made a large amount of diffuser bracelets and scrunchies, along with over 600 face masks to help keep our clients safe. We also have an extensive amount of followers on Instagram and Facebook which provides us a niche to the market.

With success comes challenge, and the biggest one to overcome is time. Prairie Gem has grown from a hobby as a mother/daughter pastime, to a full business with high product demand. Our challenge is having enough time to keep up with the orders coming in.

Any advice that you would tell someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

Prairie Gem would like to remind those crafters and hobbyists out there to believe in yourself, have patience, and do some research. It is such an amazing feeling to enjoy what you do while creating a successful home based business. Be confident in your own product line and you will soar.

Please share any upcoming events (physical events, virtual sales, etc.) that you think Winnipeggers would be interested in!

Due to Covid-19 and the Code Red restrictions set in Manitoba, it has limited us with physical events, however we have still been incredibly busy and are trying to keep up with the online shopping. We continue to have virtual sales and events that are posted daily to our pages. We recently launched an exclusive line of beard masks for men and have a new and innovative product line to be released soon. Stay Tuned!
