About Whitehouse Art
Can you please fully explain your business or product line?
I love to capture pets and wildlife using watercolours in my colourful and whimsical style. My business, Whitehouse Art, stems from my love of animals and my desire to share my art with the world. Whitehouse Art offers original pet portraits as well as archival prints of my original paintings.
With the local maker community continuing to grow, what makes you stand out from the rest?
I understand that customers have such a wide variety of options when it comes to home decor. I truly love what I do and I believe I am always evolving as an artist and improving. My art is unique and colourful and brings a smile to people’s faces. I believe that art should elicit emotion and happiness is the best feeling of all!
What made you realize that you had a product that could be shared with others?
I’ve always loved to paint, but it wasn’t until I had kids, that I found the motivation I needed to put my art out there. It was actually through Handmade Winnipeg on Facebook that I found the encouragement I needed to continue to create and pursue the sale of my art.
What has been your biggest success as a maker? Biggest struggle you’ve overcome?
I feel like as a small business owner, you need to wear so many hats. I’m in charge of accounting, marketing, sales, website development, you name it! It’s been a struggle learning so many new skills, but it’s one I’ve faced head-on. I would also say that this has been my greatest success as well. I believe in diving in headfirst and learning on my feet. This has meant a lot of challenging moments and late nights, but I feel so grateful I am able to work full time, doing what I love.
Any advice that you would tell someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?
Don’t wait until you have everything figured out to start. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, learn from them and adjust.
Please share any upcoming events (physical events, virtual sales, etc.) that you think Winnipeggers would be interested in!
My art is always available online at www.whitehouseart.ca with contactless pick-up in the South End, as well as a variety of retailers, which can also be found on my website.
