About Beard and Brawn Beard Oil Co.

Can you please fully explain your business or product line?

Beard and Brawn is a Manitoba-owned, hand-made beard care product line that uses only the highest quality natural ingredients. Our oils all contain a minimum of SEVEN carrier oils and a blend of essential oils which not only have multiple benefits to beard and skin, but also create a wide variety of scents that are designed for men.

With the local maker community continuing to grow, what makes you stand out from the rest?

Firstly, we are one of the first local beard oil companies that focused primarily on beard care. Secondly, we are the only company that has an owner that is a Barber who has many years of industry experience.

What made you realize that you had a product that could be shared with others?

To be honest, the company started because we were looking for a natural beard oil product that was high quality and decided to make it for ourselves. We thought we should make extra to sell and received such great feedback that we decided to continue to grow the business.

What has been your biggest success as a maker? Biggest struggle you’ve overcome?

Our biggest success has been meeting a need for handmade items for men. Markets and retailers alike, are always looking for items/products geared toward men in order to be more diverse for their customers.

I feel we are currently overcoming our biggest struggle. Like most small business owners during this time of restrictions, we are not able to promote our retailers and sell at markets, as we once did. Our men’s beard trimming events have been put on hold for now and we are in a time where we have to support our local retailers differently. Currently, out of respect for our customers, we are not doing markets, but we want to be sure that our retailers, which are all on our website, are stocked up for this upcoming beard season.

Any advice that you would tell someone hoping to start up their own business or product line?

The advice I would give is start slow and ride the waves. There will be high tides and low tides; don’t lose heart. Persevere and be careful with high-risk decisions; trust your gut. Slow and steady is what good business is built on. Like the saying goes, “If it is too good to be true it probably is”. Oh and of course, celebrate your wins!

Please share any upcoming events (physical events, virtual sales, etc.) that you think Winnipeggers would be interested in!

At this time we are not doing any of our own events, but are thanking everyone who supports our partner retailers. Their locations are on our website. We truly stand behind our partner barbershops, salons, boutiques, art galleries, gift shops, and stores. We are certain that there is a place that can meet everyone’s needs.
